Confinement is a normal part of a domesticated bird's life. The following are ways identified to reduce the stress:
- Spending time outside the cage.
- Provide interesting food and toys in the cage.
- Crunchy foods are great monotony relievers.
- Trips to other parts of the house or outside (in harness and leash).
- Another bird to call to.
- Special food treats.
- Sitting on their person.
- Bathing and car rides if they like them.
- Warm food, especially at night.
- Talking to them and explaining things.
- Snuggle them and hug them and scratch them and massage their feet.
- Teach them to laugh.
- Provide a large cage.
- Take them flapping around the house on your hand, playing airplane or roller coaster while they flap.
- Play interactive games with them like songs, games and football.
