From: BIRD911@PARROTTALK.COM: STOLEN ECLECTUS PARROTS in Ann Arbor, MI. Ann Arbor police are asking for the public's help to find two exotic parrots that were stolen from an Ann Arbor home last week. The 45-year-old homeowner told police she left her home on Stellar Road for the day. When she returned Wednesday afternoon she saw that her home had been burglarized and her two Eclectus parrots were missing from their cage. "We don't know if they went in there specifically to get the birds or not, but once inside, it appears they used a blanket to round the birds up and took them out of the residence," said Lt. Michael Logghe. Also the thieves stole a computer, television and a DVD player, worth about $2,000. The homeowner told Local 4 News that her main concern is recovering the two 18-inch-tall birds, one male, Pippen, and one female, Jewels. The birds are valued at $1,600 each. "The birds were nesting eggs, which were left behind," said Logghe. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Ann Arbor Police tip line at 734-996-3199. 9/7/07

STOLEN PARROTS
in Rockville Center, MI. 5 Parrots Stolen From
Renowned N.Y. Pet Store (CBS) ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. Police are searching for
suspects behind a major bird heist from a pet store in Rockville Centre, costing
the owner thousands of dollars. Authorities say 45 parrots in all were stolen
from the store owned by Mark Marone, a frequent guest known as "The Pet Keeper"
on The Martha Stewart Show. "They took Amazon parrots, they took African gray
parrots, they took cockatos," Marone tells CBS 2 HD. Marone's store, "Parrots Of
The World," lost approximately $58,000 from the heist. "That's about 1,200 bucks
a bird," he says.
Police say the thieves broke into the store through a back window. "They knew
exactly what they were doing. They were like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible,"
he said. How they managed to get away discreetly with 45 noisy parrots is still
being determined by investigators. Marone says there is surveillance video that
he turned over to authorities. Anyone with information on the stolen parrots is
asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

From: BIRD911@PARROTTALK.COM: STOLEN BIRDS in Detroit, MI. Exotic Birds, Supplies Stolen From Pet Store. Police said intruders made it out of a local pet store with several rare and expensive birds. Patricia Fullerton is the owner of the Discount Pet Supplies store located on Middlebelt Road between 5 and 6 Mile roads. "I came in through the opening in the door where it was broken, and I came in screaming and yelling," Fullerton said. She said the thieves stole eight exotic birds, including one that was being boarded at the store. They also stole bags of the most expensive bird food, cages and water bottles. Fullerton is estimating the loss at $10,000. "I want to get to the bottom of this, but the most important thing is to get Herbie back," Fullerton said. "We want Herbie back." Herbie is a $1,300 Congo African Grey parrot that was in cage at the front of the store. Fullerton said he was being boarded there while his owner was on vacation. Birds that customers board at the store are kept in locked cages, Fullerton said, and Herbie was in front because the owner wanted him to get more attention. ruby.mann@gmail.com 4/21/07
